The Sydney Roosters will be without the services of 3 of their biggest stars in round 10 of the NRL due to State of Origin commitments.
Second-rowers Anthony Tupou, Craig Fitzgibbon and prop Willie Mason will all miss Friday’s clash against Parramatta after being selected in the NSW squad that will try and smash Queensland in game one of the rugby league State of Origin series at ANZ Stadium on May 21.
Fitzgibbon - who makes his return to the Origin cauldron after being overlooked for three-years- has kicked 27 goals for the Roosters this season and his absence could prove crucial against an Eels outfit desperate to take advantage of under-manned rivals.
Meanwhile the Brisbane Broncos will attempt to end their losing streak against the Sharks without the services of Peter Wallace this weekend.
Wallace – who Penrith failed to re-sign last season – won the halfback role ahead of Brett Finch (Parramatta), Jarrod Mullen (Newcastle), Matt Orford (Manly) and Brett Kimmorley (Cronulla).
This means New South Wales will kick-off the Origin series with a rookie halfback for a second-year running.
Last season Jarrod Mullen stepped up to the plate but an ordinary kicking game in game 1 saw him dropped and replaced by Brett Kimmorley.
Knights hooker Danny Buderus will captain NSW for what will probably be the last time after agreeing to play with Leeds in the English Super League from 2009.
Queensland won that series 2-1 and are looking to make this their third straight win in Rugby League’s favourite inter-state rivalry.
