The 186-game veteran known also as ‘bobcat’ defused a possible 2-match suspension after being cited for an alleged careless high-tackle on St. George Illawarra Dragons">St. George Illawarra Dragons second-rower Jason Ryles last weekend.
Ryan’s counsel argued successfully that he had just 0.2 of a second to adjust the tackle as Ryles was falling.
“I did make contact but I wouldn’t say I’m surprised at the verdict,” Ryan victoriously proclaimed after the hearing.
Parramatta Eels">Parramatta Eels fans – who were secretly hoping for an easy win over the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs">Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs this weekend –are thought to be ‘disappointed’ with the result.
Canterbury will play Parramatta on Friday night minus a host of injured key stars including Willie Mason.
Ryan has only lost once against his former side since joining Canterbury in 2003.
