globalrugbyleague - Sun, 16 Nov 2008 08:56:00 GMTNew Zealand have reached their third World Cup final after ending baby England’s campaign with a 32-22 win at Suncorp Stadium.
However Kiwi coach Stephen Kearney believes his side needs a lot of improvement if they are to cause an upset victory over the Aussies who meet Fiji tonight at the Sydney Football Stadium.
“How big’s your pad?” Kearney responded to a journalist when asked how much his side had to improve before next week’s mismatch.
“There’s a lot of areas we need to improve on. It’s a wonderful achievement to be able to contest next week’s final, but I’m still disappointed with a few aspects of our game,” he said.
“You’ve got to get a lot of things right on the day to be very competitive against Australia. Sometimes you need a bit of luck too. That’s what we’ll be working on.”
For English coach Tony Smith there was no shortage of disappointing aspects to his side’s World Cup campaign .
“We under-achieved. We wanted to lift our place in the world pecking order and unfortunately we’ve stayed where we are”, Smith said.
“Perhaps at some stage we need to make a decision whether we want an entertaining game or we want to be no.1 in the world.
“I am not complaining about the rules out here, but they are different and it is difficult for us to play the way we want to play under those interpretations.”
New Zealand 32 (Jerome Ropati (2), Sam Perrett, Lance Hohaia, Bronson Harrison, Benji Marshall tries; Jeremy Smith (3/5), Benji Marshall (1/1) Goals) def England 22 (Danny McGuire (2), Jamie Peacock, Martin Glesson tries; Rob Burrow (3/3), Rob Purdham (0/1) goals) - Read More, Here
