A dramatic semi-finals showdown saw five players get sent off during the Narellan Jets 40-22 victory over the Mittagong Lions in the under 18B minor semi-final on Saturday.

In a very physical game, the Jets bench was found empty on two occasions due to on-field altercations.

According to Southern Highland News on the second occasion “three Jets’ players were sent off for racing off the bench to fight.”

Bo Lander from the Lions won GRL’s best and fairest for fighting though he had some competition for the award from several Jets’ players.

The Jets raced out to a 22-6 lead before the Lions hit back with three tries in 13 minutes inside the second half to level the scores 22-all.

However the Lions failed to take advantage of valuable field position, allowing the Jets to score next and snatch the lead again up 28-22.

Unable to rediscover the attacking magic that kept the game alive, the Lions faded away while conceding two more tries to go down by 18-points.

In group 6, the Moss Vale dragons overcame a 6-all deadlock at half-time to pin the Oakdale Workers 14-8 thanks to a late try to Damien Barton in the final minutes of play.
