The South Logan
Magpies snatched a historic 48-44 win over Fiji
Bati in the Final of the 2007 Orara
Valley Axemen Sevens at
Coramba Sportsground.

But it wouldn’t quite be a final without the added thrill of a drama. And
there were plenty of those towards the back-end of a highly competitive
contest.

Locked in at 44-points a piece towards the end of regular time, it
appeared the Magpies cause was lost when Fiji managed to dive over in the
corner right on full-time.

However the hreferee in the first of several controversial decisions
disallowed the four-pointer as it was scored after the final siren.

Moments later, Fiji
were in again but this time they were penalized for a double movement.

The Magpies were then dealt a blow of their own when Kyle Lodge, looking
like he’d grabbed his fifth try of the match, was called up for a forward pass.

It was a case of Murphy’s law in action. Whatever can go wrong, will go
wrong.

Another chance for Fiji
went astray shortly afterwards when the last pass of the movement went over the
touchline.

Souths Logan finally hit the knock-out blow they needed when
former Test footballer, Brandon Costin made a break which helped set up a
match-winning try to Phil Dennis.
