Parramatta halfback Tim Smith has been suspended indefinitely after returning to the booze less then a week after agreeing to abstain from it.

Smith remains on contract with the club and will be given time to focus on his health.

A club spokesperson said Smith had voluntarily checked himself into rehab interstate to "to address a number of complex issues."

"He has been suspended until everyone involved including the player, the club and the medical practitioners can review and assess Tim's rehabilitation," he said.

Smith - who made his first grade debut with the Eels in March, 2005 - reportedly presented a $1000 drinking fine to Ronald McDonald house last Wednesday and then headed straight to the pub.

Meanwhile the Parramatta Stadium Trust have agreed to erect a statue of Ray Price outside his old stomping ground.

The Trust took one hell of a media beating after deciding to rename the famous Ray Price Lounge for "business" reasons.

Angry sponsors threatened to withdraw support while some fans tore up their membership.
