South
Sydney legend John Sattler will be one famous face cramming into Redfern Oval
this afternoon to witness the Tigers do battle with an under-strength but
spirited Rabbitohs squad.

Instead
of cooling off in the lush waters off Bondi Beach just up the road, Sattler
along with 5000 members will brave the heat to watch the traditional rivals
sweat on each other profusely in the quest for off-season bragging rights.

For
Sattler it will be a moment of redemption which will bring tears to the eyes of
many true blue Rabbitohs fans.

The
former South Sydney captain along with other legendary icons, boycotted the
club after being abused by a minority of South Sydney members who objected to
the legends trying to prevent the club from being sold to Russell Crowe and
Peter Holmes a’ Court.

Participating
in a touch football legends game prior to the trial match, Sattler will
walk out onto Redfern Oval for the first time in 37-years. Though his
playing time is expected to be limited.

“I had
a knee replacement about four months ago,” Sattler told the Sunday Telegraph.

“I
dropped a couple of inches in height, the knees are terrific, but my hips have
been playing up a little, I’m not sure how long I’ll be out there.”

He may
find it difficult to recognize though following a $20 million facelift which
enables the Rabbitohs to use a state-of-the-art training facilities for the
players and coaches.

“It
will be interesting to see what they’ve done to Redfern Oval, I’m looking
forward to seeing what they’ve done to Redfern Oval, I’m looking forward to
seeing the old ground.

“We
played there mid-week on Wednesday in the late 60’s, we played Newtown and
there was something like 20,000 people.

Wests
Tigers will be under pressure to not just win this game but blow the other side
off the park in cruise control after Rabbitohs coach Jason Taylor named a
South Sydney squad which focuses on the future.
