South Sydney officially recorded their best winning ratio since returning to the NRL in 2002 after defeating St George-Illawarra 24-14 in round 23.

The ten-point victory at WIN Stadium handed Jason Taylor his 10th victory in season 2007 while re-writing history for all the right reasons as well.

Fighting to keep their top eight hopes alive, the Rabbitohs did it in style by defeating the Dragons at WIN Stadium for the very first time.

Equally if not more importantly they also surpassed the 9 wins they put together under former coach Shaun McRae in 2005.

Having not appeared in an NRL finals series since 1989, a top eight position reserved for the red and green would certainly be a fitting way to finish off the season.

The Rabbitohs however may not see victory for a while now when they play in-form Manly-Warringah at Telstra Stadium next Monday.

Leading 10-8 at half-time care of two tries to halfback Jeremy Smith and Paul Mellor, the visitors however appeared to return to their old tricks very quickly.

A benefit of the doubt try to Dragons bench hooker Rangi Chase helped the home side take the lead for the first time in the game.

But then halfback Jamie Soward pushed the patience of referee Steven Clark too far by holding Dean Widders down in a tackle.

Clark without any hesitation then sent Soward off to the sin-bin before Mellor and Yileen Gordon both touched down in the 64th and 71st minute.

A penalty conceded right in front of the posts was too hard to resist for Souths five-eighth Joe Williams who set-up the final score to officially end the Dragons season.

Consolation for Dragons coach Nathan Brown came in Premier League with the stars of tomorrow for St George-Illawarra beating North Sydney 34-24.

South Sydney Rabbitohs 24 (Jeremy Smith, Paul Mellor (2), Yileen Gordon tries; Joe Williams (4/5) goals) d St George Illawarra Dragons 14 (Tom Hewitt (2), Rangi Chase tries; Jamie Soward (1/3) goals) at WIN Stadium. - Read More, Here
