North Sydney have once again stamped their authority on Bear Park with a combined total of 94 points in both grades on Friday night.

“It was a Danger game that thankfully did not eventuate” commented Bears Coach Wayne Lambkin. “It was always going to be a mental challenge after the 3 wins but they got in did the work” claimed the relieved but proud Coach.

A well weighted kick by Joe Williams putting Troy Boston in for a try started the action for the Bears. Soon after returning second rower Eddy Pettybourne made a speedy break and sent the pill to Reece Simmonds who had an inside pass for the young Greg Nichols to score. Joe converted both tries and the Bears were12-0.

Next up was the mercurial David Peachey. Classy lead up work from lock Jardine Bobongie allowed the classy full-back to score as Joe Williams converted Norths were 18-0.

Jeremy Smith’s moment in the spotlight was a combination of quick thinking and evasive footwork close to the line to score. The North Sydney spot light then turned to the ever present Joe Williams.

Eddy Pettybourne broke the line again to set up Joe for his first try. Back up king Jeremy Smith combined with the Peach to send Joe over the chalk again to score. With Joey’s conversions the Bears had racked up a massive 36 points in 28 minutes.

Western Suburbs then obtained a scrum feed in the Bears half and converted it to 6 points as they hit the sheds Bears 36-6.

After only 2 minutes the gazelle like David Peachey made a break and got the ball to Jardine Bobongie who busted and bruised his way over for a try and Joey converted yet again. Minutes after the Bears were at the Maggies line again with Reece Simmonds being held up over the line. But the ball was spread along the backline to the opposite side for a strong running Yilleen Gordon to run in and score.

The Peach then put on a dashing break combining with Reece to give Joey his hat trick and bring his personal tally to 28 and the teams to 52.

At this point the Bears somewhat clocked off as the diehard Magpies put on 2 tries to make it 52-14.

Finally a somewhat surprised Michael Greenfield found himself at the Wests line with ball in hand. With a move reminiscent of a Greg Florimo fend Michael barely acknowledged his opposition as he barged over to score. Joey made his final kick and the 2 points were in the bag at 58-14.

“Joe Williams was a standout scoring 30 points and 3 tries” stated Wayne Lambkin happy his side ‘finished the job off’. Combining with Jeremy Smith it was one of Joe’s best passing games.

“David Peachey - what can I say he’s all class” said Wayne claiming he lifted the team to a new level of commitment and fitted in seamlessly into the backline. A particularly memorably moment was when he dashed from his position in the scum at lock to run and cover the loose ball headed for the in goal – clearly enjoying putting his body on the line and showing the commitment of a true first grader.

“I had a good time” claimed the Peach acknowledging he needed to get back to basics on parts of his game. “There was a lot more open space out there to work with. It was good”

Eddy Pettybourne had a good return match and joined Michael Greenfield, Jardine Bobongie, Joe Falemaka and Ryan Verlinden in a solid forward pack display. Young up and comer Greg Nichols did great to cover the five-eight role at short notice.
