No sponsor, no Lomu - Australian Rugby league News

Don't hold your breath. That's the advice being given to Rugby League fans who were hoping to see former All-Blacks great Jonah Lomu play in the Charity Shield.

While the idea generated an extra spark to in the build-up to the annual showdown between St.George-Illawarra and South Sydney, it's understood that Rabbitohs officials have given up finding a sponsor for Lomu.

Lomu supposedly wants a $70,000 appearance fee to turn out for the Rabbitohs against the Dragons at Stadium Australia on March 1.

"Because it's a charity game, we want any money to go to charity rather than giving it to a player," said Souths football director Shane Richardson.

"There are some good opportunities for anyone who wants to get behind this with a luncheon planned, signage and jersey space."

Should somebody fork out $70,000 for Lomu to play a one-off game or should Lomu pay South Sydney $70,000 for the honour of representing the red and green? Tell us what you think in our feedback forms below.
