Cronulla-Sutherland will start as favourites against Melbourne on Friday night after hooker Cameron Smith was suspended for the rest of the season.
The Storm captain received a two-game suspension for a grade one contrary conduct charge for unnecessary head or neck contact on Brisbane's Sam Thaiday last Saturday night.
Smith unsuccessfully argued that his contact with Thaiday's chin was unintentional with the 3-man panel of Royce Ayliffe, Darrell Williams and Darren Britt taking only 20 minutes to reach the guilty verdict.
It was a bad week to be a Smith in Melbourne with Jeremy Smith also suspended for one match while Ryan Hoffman is unavailable due to injury.
Following the verdict speculation was running rife in Rugby League that the GRL Traitor has gone underground for counseling.
The columnist of mystery had set his hopes on New Zealand playing Melbourne live in Sydney on Grand Final day. That wish appears to have been dashed with the mystery writer unable to be reached.
