Miners will be looking for back-to-back wins when they attempt to topple the
Castleford Panthers next Saturday in the opening round of the English Challenge
Cup.

The Miners
will be coming off a two week Challenge Cup break since their 40-12 win over
the Stanley Rangers on January 3 via some fluent attack.

Last
season the Miners scored two first two round victories, averaging 44 points per game
while conceding a total of 30 points in defence.

They’ll
have their work cut out for them this weekend when they travel away to play
Castleford Panthers who will be looking for a big improvement themselves after
getting eliminated in the opening round in 2008 against Bramley.

The
most outstanding team for least amount of points scored in the final
preliminary round of the Challenge Cup were the Bank Quay Bulls who left their fans
confident of a big season ahead after managing to score just six points.

Team of
the Week went to the Bristol Sonics who successfully racked up the biggest
losing margin of the round after donating a 44-point win to the Leeds Mets.

Sonics
supporters can take heart in the fact that they still made history...just at
their own expense.
