Manly will be missing their captain for the first time in season 2007 after halfback Matt Orford was ruled out of Saturday’s clash with the Wests Tigers at Leichardt Oval.

Orford – who only missed two games last season – became the third casualty of last weekend’s 32-6 win over Canberra.

The central coast prodigy will also join former captain Steve Menzies (groin) and centre Steve Matai on the sideline.

Des Hasler is expected to move Michael Monaghan into his former role while sticking with Travis Burns at five-eighth.

Hasler had wanted to afford Orford a final training sessions to prove his fitness but in the end conceded that this came down to “hope” and nothing more.

The role changes opens up an opportunity for rookie Matt Ballin to play his first match with the Eagles while Shayne Dunley also remains injured.

Meanwhile Tigers coach Tim Sheens is not expected to include Russian recruit Roman Ovchinnikov in tonight’s side.
