Could Bulldogs coach Steve Folkes be about to embark upon a new career in comical relief when his time at Belmore comes to an end?
On Friday night the Canterbury juggernaut successfully secured loss number ten in 2008 after the Sydney Roosters came from 10-0 down to score five tries and secure a 24-14 victory minus their best starting line-up.
Were there calls to lifeline? Maybe amongst Bulldogs fans but certainly not amongst the coaching staff.
Instead the media was treated to a bit of sit-down comedy with the former premiership winning second-row forward opting to save the Dogs season by remaining happy.
Asked about a video refereeing decision by Bill “Hollywood” Harrigan, Folkes responded with:
“Maybe there has been too much Gladiators for Bill.”
The world’s greatest jokes continued even if Bulldogs fans don’t think the situation there team is in is any laughing matter.
Asked about Mark’ O’Meley’s comment on the eve of the match in which the former Belmore star declared his old team had “lost their aura”, the knee-slapping one-liners continued.
“That’s just Ogre. That’s his shit. You should see him on a Friday night at Northies.”
According to a Bulldogs insider who spoke to the Daily Telegraph after the game Folkes “thinks he is Monty Python.”
This leads global rugby league.com to ask a very serious question. Which Monty Python song should the Bulldogs run out to at their next home game?
“Always look on the bright side of life” or “Meaning of Life”?
