New super league coach Brian McLennan scored his first win over an NRL outfit after the Leeds Rhinos downed South Sydney 26-24 in their Australia Day Challenge.

McLennan will now go hunting for his second win over another club from down under when the 2007 Super League champions battle reigning NRL premiers Melbourne in the World Club Challenge on February 29.

The Rhinos scored five first half tries to lead 26-0 at half time before the Rabbitohs hit back, holding the scoreboard leaders scoreless while picking up 4 second-half tries care of Ben Rogers, Issac Luke, Eddie Paea and Roosters recruit George Ndaire.

There were two moments in the second half when both coaches would’ve been left stranded on the edge of their seats.

The first came in the 69th minute of play when Paea got through the defence again and looked certain to score his second try of the game before a desperate tackle from Nick Scruton brought Paea's momentum to a quick halt.

Earlier on centre Keith Senior had a try of his own disallowed after only just getting the ball down before he was taken out of the field of play.

Cold conditions assisted by some pre-game rain didn't hurt the entertainment value of this historic clash at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville Florida.

The Rugby League world now awaits the reaction of Americans to this overseas experiment.

There are reports that the game will be televised in the US, Australia and England. - Read More, Here
