Former Panthers five-eighth Preston Campbell made a triumphant return to his old stomping ground after the Titans held on for a 24-22 win over in-form Penrith.

Campbell scored his second try of the season against his former teammates while successfully converting all four shots at goal.

For the Titans however their second win of the year was one that almost got away.

Leading 24-6 with 22 minutes remaining in the second forty, the visitors dropped off defensively and conceded two tries to second-rower Frank Pritchard (52nd and 78th minute) and one to Michael Gordon (71st)

Panthers coach Mathew Elliot told the media after the game that he felt he had “let the boys down” by not addressing a problem with the penalty count early in their games.

In worse news for Elliot, his side lost lock Trent Waterhouse and prop Joel Clinton to injury in both halves of the game.
